On Top Of The World

Witness the breathtaking panorama form one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Sears Tower Sky Deck is definitely an unforgettable experience. It is said that on a clear summer day visitors can see the surroundings up to 40 or 50 miles away, including the city of Chicago and the states of Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana.

The Sears Tower Sky Deck opened in the year 1974, following the construction of the Sears Towers itself in 1973 and has since been the tallest building in North America. The Sky Deck is located on the 103rd floor of the building 1,354 feet above the ground and has long been one of the most popular tourist attractions in Chicago. The breathtaking view from the top is accentuated even further by the swaying of the deck on windy days, which adds an element of fear and excitement.

It takes about 45 seconds for tourists to soar to the top of the building via the elevators. For the enjoyment of the visitors the elevators are equipped with 50-inch TV screens that make you feel like you are blasting off from the top of the Sears Towers into outer space. The Sky Deck also houses an interesting and interactive museum that places special emphasis on the history of Chicago and its popular personalities. Interactive booths have been set up and offer tours of the city’s famous landmarks; among the exhibits here is ‘knee high- Chicago a miniature representation of the city’s buildings and roads.

The Sky Deck also has plenty of entertainment on offer, among the restaurants here are Augustino’s Rock and Roll Deli which are just a couple among the great cafes and restaurants that can be enjoyed here. The Sears Tower Sky Deck can easily be accessed by travelers staying at many Chicago hotels due its central location.
