Eating In China

If you choose to explore China you will be treated to a raft of different cultural experiences. Foremost amongst those is likely to be food, Chinese food may be very different from what you’ve eaten previously, yet it is generally fantastic and may well be a highlight of your holiday. Here are a few tips to help you enjoy food in China.

The first thing that confronts most people in China is chopsticks: the Chinese do not use forks and knives, so you will have to learn how to manipulate them in order to eat the delicious food you order. The only way to get comfortable with chopsticks is to practice using them, so before you embark on your journey go out for a few meals at Asian restaurants and practice your skills. You’ll soon pick it up, and you’re likely to find that it’s quite a pleasant way to eat.

The key to enjoying China from a culinary perspective is an adventurous attitude. Much of the food you see on offer may seem strange or even disgusting, but it is well worth taking a leap of faith and ordering specialities such as Bird’s Nest Soup and Peking Duck.

Finally, it would be a shame to miss out on one of the world’s greatest culinary cities: head to Hong Kong and try its legendary Cantonese food. Dine in fancy restaurants and little curb-side eateries and enjoy the very best that Chinese food has to offer, you won’t regret it.
